Remote Sniffer

For this application there are a couple things needed:

1) Ensure that the Barionet/Raspberry has the latest Flexa scripts and be sure that you have a regID for the Raspberry:

If you have recently bought a Barionet, it should have the latest Flexa scripts and you can ignore this step. Nevertheless, you can do this, to ensure your Barionet is good to go!

Initial Installation

2) Register your Barionet/Raspberry regID on linuquick portal:

Go to the linuquick portal. If you do NOT have an account, proceed creating one.

Create a project and add your barionet/raspberry as a device, choosing the package “MDB Toolchest - Remote Sniffer” as the application. Reboot your device afterwards, so it can install the application.

At this point you have all the necessary files to run MDB Toolchest but first, you have to redeem your MDB Toolchest coupon. If you have not done this, check section Licensing of MDB Toolchest.

3) Licensing (for MDB-USB)

The toolchest license for the MDB Remote Sniffer applications is issued yearly and expires in 2 conditions:

1 - The total recording time reaches 300 hours.

2 - The license reaches 1 year of active time.

If you are using MDB-USB, to obtain the license:

  1. Connect MDB-USB to your PC through USB cable.
  2. Open MDB Toolchest on your PC, and connect it to the device ("Connect" button)
  3. Go to License > Redeem coupon
  4. Input your coupon and hit "OK"
  5. You should now have a license for that MDB-USB device
  6. Disconnect the MDB-USB from your PC and connect it back to Barionet/Raspberry

3) Licensing (for pi hat)

If you are using pi hat, to obtain the license:

  1. If you don't have MDB pi hat on your raspberry already, turn the raspberry off and put on the MDB pi hat.
  2. Navigate to your device in linuquick. You should be able to see "Reported Status" field in the table, if the device is connected it should be in a form of a hexadecimal string (similar to this one: "35ffd3054e56333541601443"). Click on the device, and from the table on the left (containing Device information), copy out the "Report Status" parameter (again, should be a hexadecimal string)

If it says "Reboot" or "Alive" in the "Reported Status" field that means it hasn't yet found the MDB pi hat connected to it, wait for up to 5 minutes and check again (be sure to refresh the page), if it still says "Reboot" or "Alive" turn the raspberry off and make sure pi hat is well connected.

  1. Open MDB Toolchest on your PC and navigate to License > Redeem coupon
  2. Copy the hexadecimal string from linuquick into "Serial ID" field
  3. Input your coupon code into "Coupon" field and hit "OK"
  4. You should now have a license for that MDB pi hat

4) Connect to the device in the MDB Toolchest

4.1) On MDB Toolchest on your PC go to: Mode → Remote Sniffer

4.2) Connect to the device (plug/un-plug icon) in the “Remote devices“ window that should pop up.

4.3) Select the messages that you want to see on the “Sniff filter” window and hit "Save"

4.4) You are good to go.

Data is being sent in 1 minute intervals, so you might have to wait for up to 1 minute to see the data.

If nothing appears, unplug and replug the MDB-USB. If the problem persists reboot the Barionet/raspi.
